This is one of five that I made this year for Christmas. I made them for the kids who travel distances with their parents all year long. This helps keep them entertained in the car on these trips. No two are the same & no block has been doubled.

thank you, I saw one @ a quilt show awhile back & I really wanted to make one & now that I have, & they have gone over well I am glad that I did. My grandson (who is 13) wanted to go home & put it on his bed right away, he said he loved it. When I went over the next day sure enough his bed was made & right on top was his new I Spy Quilt! I was very proud!

yes there is most definately alot of love in them! my husband & I shopped for 5.1/2 months for the fabric to do the 5 of them. It took this long because I don't have alot of kid oriented fabric. It was alot of thinking so I could put each kids personal preferences in each quilt.The one here has alot of sports& games. Thanks
I had to shop a long time for my fabrics too. I have made 3 others like my first one. The matching one was very time consuming to make sure I had a match and then make sure they matches weren't too close together.
It is alot of work but sewing is what I love to do & the families love them too! Sew it's a win win

I wish that I could say that I used up scraps! But I really didn't have alot of "kid" fabrics. Sew I had to start from scratch. Thanks

once you make one you might as well do two as you can use the fabric in more than one as long as you don't put them in the same order. When they are done the whole family plays! Thanks

This is amazing - you did have to really get alot of fabric with many different themes - you must have had to go to alot of different shops, too. WOW!

I really did & my husband was getting a bit sick of it too. As I kept asking him to look for geography, astrology,military, western,sports related fabric........but then I'd say well don't we have some of that? It was alot of specifics. But everyone is thrilled to have them & I used flanelette on the backs. That was the easy part

You can make them whatever size you need, the blocks are 6.5" & the smaller one is 3.5". I made them depending on how much room in the car or van or truck the kids were in. They aren't based on bed size but I did make them in lg twins for my grand-son & daughter, I think that for his I used 180 of the 6.5" & x2 for the smaller squares. YOu can use more or less depending on the layout too. I have enough bits left over to make 2 smaller ones. Hopefully one for me as I have more floral fabric I can use

I made one of these 8 years ago for my then 2 year old granddaughter. She didn't understand the concept of "I Spy" so my quilts are called "I See" because we said I see a cat, can you find a cat? The theme of my first one was familes. I had familes of cows, chickens, chairs, apples and family things like raking leaves, cooking, playing piano, etc. Funny story in making the quilt, my son (age 12) and daughter (age 17) (the aunt) played with each other. They of course found the obscure objects. Two years later I made another for GD #2. Her theme was matching. I used many of the same from her sisters but each block had match somewhere on the quilt. The girls had fun comparing their quilts. Now I need to make 3 more and I don't have ideas for the others. We tried making a game idea but it has not come together yet.
