Raels, you're too organised, haha. I change mine when my machine start to sound noisier, or when it shreds my thread, or when I think of it!!! Does that answer your question? If I'm doing something special, or FSL, then I use a new needle, then finish that needle off on ordinary embroidery. Other than that I don't have any rules, and your way would be no good for me, sorry - I'd forget how many hours I had done from one project to another. Flowers and hugs to you.

raels, I do that as well, or more often - if I am working on free standing lace - have to keep it sharp for that delecate work. Great question. A flower for you. What are you presently working on?

I change needles with every big project I do. Which is the equivalent of 2-3 days of small projects. OR if I'm working on something very expensive, I will always put in a new needle. I have one of the red tomato pin cushions and each section I have marked. So that I can tell if I only used a needle for a short time, OR if it is a #90 or whatever. ;)

Raels, my dealer would love you! I usually change my needle when I drag my machine into the dealer because it isn't sewing right & she says "you know, if you'd change this needle once in a while..." then gives me a free needle. Thank heavens I haven't broken any yet, but I have bent a few. On my regular 40 year old cast iron sewing machine, I'm with Connie, I change needles when it breaks. I truly do, seriously, admire your organization. I'm so scatter-witted I have often started projects without enough bobbin thread (yeah, I forget that's not a 'perpetual bobbin' in there). Your projects will come out better than mine, I'm sure, but I do laugh a lot at the things I do (or don't do). Happy Sewing, Raels!!!! Marji

The dealer from which I purchased my machine suggested changing the needle for every 8 hours of use time. I try to do that but I don't keep track of my use time very well so I'm sure it goes longer than that.

Raels, I don't think you take time to emb. you are always here chatting. But good luck with your gradsons quilts I'm sure they will love them. I guess im lazy or forget ful I change my needle when ever it breaks,shred my thread or I say Oh yea you should change that needle more often. Hugs to all

I have been told to change every 8 hours but I forget when the 8 hours are up. I am trying to remember more ofter. i hear that the finished product is better.
