it out of the tree. Well he eventually ran down the tree and straight up this one. He is a brush tail and quite a big boy.
Our Australian Possums are just gorgeous. They sleep all day in hollows of trees and come out at night to play, eat and mate etc.
I am blessed that I have this beautiful reserve to look at every day. Plus all the birdlife that flies past.
As you can see from the photos it's a glorious day here today and it's just gone middday.

1. This is the Possum after he came out of the dead gum tree and ran up this one. It's quite a large tree and he was a good 20 + metres up this tree.
2. This is the old gum tree that was felled. It was 3 times as big as what is now left. It was completely hollow - looks like it was eaten from the inside out! The tree behind it is an Angophora Gum Tree which has the most amazing shaped branches. Great climbing tree
3. This is the view from my sewing room. I have been looking out at this old dead gum tree for years and so it's nice to have it finally felled. They have left part of it standing so that wildlife can still occupy it.

Quite a large Possum, Chris! It is so nice to live where you
are blessed to view such nature and wildlife. I live in a private country setting in middle Georgia, USA, and I enjoy it
so much. I have deer visiting on a regular basis; just this past summer, I saw a doe and her baby drinking from the edge of
our pond, a short distance from the house. A possum comes to partake of the cat's food on the back porch, occasionally, at night. A time or two, I have spotted a small fox darting across the yard, but not often. To commune with nature is so
relaxing; the peace and quiet is soothing. I know you love your bit of heaven on earth, as I do!!

Chris, The possums we have here in Alabama do not look like that. You would not want to look out the window and see one of ours, they are UGLY!!!!!!! I live in the country, was raised on a farm, so I have always been around animals. It was a nice day here also.

Your possum has a more webbed foot than the ones I see around our home and with brown fur as ours has a light grey fur. I'm like you blessed with thousands of acres of forest and endless animals and insects (not crazy about the snakes though).

No, Capoodle, that is a piece of bark that you think is his foot. Possums have large claws like cats and dogs. He actually has his arms tucked up under is front. Sounds like your little bit of heaven is gorgeous too love Chris
Took another look and that bark really did look like it's hand. Being tucked up like that it must have been freighted by all the noise.

Wow, what an adventure. I sure do miss my old sewing room in North Carolina and the view I had from it and the wooded area behind our house where there was alot of wildlife, but I miss going out on the deck and whistling for the cardinals and hearing them sing back.

Boy - they sure don't look like the possums that come our way. LOL We had one burrow under our deck and had to be removed. The ones down here smell pretty bad if you come close to one - I think it has to do with some chemical in their system - and no, I am not talking about skunks. Do you Aussie Cuties have those down there too?

We don't have skunks in Australia. Just lots of other unusual animals. My husband and son went walking with Cooper just down the road from us on a bicycle path. I passes through the Jewells swamp and they saw a Platypus. That was a real thrill because these animals are very timid. I've seen the American O'Possum and you are right they look nothing like ours. Oh, ours are so ugly! We have racoons that come to our deck. I walked out one night, and the big mamma scared me. I slammed the door, and she took off, and then 3 little babies followed behind her. DH went out and when he saw the mamma raised up looking, we realized that there was another baby hidden over in the corner. Cute - but I don't want to mess with them.

Hi Sally, yes we are very fortunate having it just at the back gate. I've been out the back today and Trevor has moved all the dead tree trunks into our little native garden that a few of us have been looking after. Love Chris

Your possums are cute! The ones we have here in TN are ugly as mud! And sorta mean! Hairless tail, pointed nose and eat garbage so they stink! The also hisss at you if cornered! They, too, are night creatures however.
