I use only metallic thread needles, and they work perfectly. I may try to find a top stitch needle... didn't know there is such a critter. :)

I have used a top stitch needle for metallic,but didn't know it was dressed for the occasion! I think I'm going to ask next time I'm in the store.

a top stitch needle has an exceptionally large eye and a small 'skirt' on the back which enlarges the hole in the fabric as it stitches. usually they are used when doing decorative top stitching like you seen on womens suits, jackets etc. You also will usually use a cord type thread.

it will work fine, but why spend the extra for the top stitch needle when the metallic needle is made for the job. either way you can't go wrong. Just be sure to slow down you machine when using the metallic threads or your vocabulary will increase tenfold! (giggle)

My dealer advised a top stitch needle for wool (like Burmilana), which works great indeed, but I haven't tried it for metallic - should work well as it's thinner than the Burmilana.

Top stitch needle is all I used before the metallic needles. It should work just fine. Slow down your speed on your machine so that skirt doesn't fly up! :-)

Oh sweetie just buy the large eye needle. My favorite is the Titanium large eye. WWW.allstitch.net
