Hello Cuties! Any suggestions on embroidering on velvet? It's dark blue and I spent alot of money for it and I don't want to make alot of mistakes. Thank you in advance!!

Hi Sew, I haven't tried this yet but I suggest your searcing the net for info on sewing on velvet because taking out stitches could leave marks, do a test stitching and get all the info you can!

Dawn, make sure that design you are wanting to use - is a quality design - that it stitches out on different types of fabric - if you don't have other velvet to test it on. i do believe that you would have to use a top WSS for it, too.

Yes! put a WSS on top for sure... I would pick a design that isn't very dense too.

Velvet must only be placed on top of stablizer. The hoops will mark (hoop Burn). But I have seen (in person) some lovely work done by Belnda Burger from Belinda's design studio sewn on velvet .Sorry I could not trace a link to her site.

Hi Dawn.
Do not hoop the velvet, spray your stabilizer and then smooth the velvet over it and use wws on top before you stitch it out.
Have given you Belinda's link.

I embroider in cotton velvet to make Christmas stockings. As the others have said, do not hoop the velvet. But I don't use wss because you need to use water to remove the stabilizer around the design. I use fine bridal tulle and trim it way afterwards. It can be bought in different colors at Joanns by the yard or in a roll in the bridal section. I also use it on towels as it stays under the design. After stitching the design, you can pull and use a scissors to trim it closely away from the design.

they all so make a heat away stabilizer so she could use that, I have not tried it but I dont think a high heat is what you use to make it disappear.
I use a spray bottle with water in it and just spray a little on the wss and it just peels off. I have had no problem using it on velvet. Hugs yvonne
