Sometimes I don't have the exact color I want in rayon or polyester, but I have it in the other type of thread. have you done this--and if so, how did it turn out?

I have on purpose, just so that some details I want to stand out shine more with one thread, and others I want to be more background I use a more matte looking thread. They turned out great!

Yes I have done so just because of the colour.
I do however prefer polyester,it will withstand washing beter and especially for table linen. But then it is always only thread for embroidery. Normal machine sewing thread might be too thick.Although I have seen serelon used for fsl, both in the needle and bobbin.

I haven't but I don't see why you couldn't. By the other Cuties answers seems to work great.

Yes I have used both polyester and rayon and sometimes even added metalic for effect. I prefer rayon for its shine. - Aileen
