I have no patience for applique but generally you will have a run stitch then you should cut the fabric, then continue with the stitching and the satin will stitch over the edge of the fabric. I am sure another cute will come along with a better explanation.

which design are you talking about I can go look at it and see which are the correct stitches for you.

Applique designs consist in principle of 3 separate lines: the placement line, the attachment and then the satin stitch. That's fine when it's a simple design, but when more pieces are added and embroidery in between it can be very confusing.

Have you got any software or can you go through the stitches on your machine? That way you could see what every colour does.

If not: the first line around an area you can see that needs a piece of fabric is the placement line, the narrow zigzag around the same area the attachment line. Cut after this one. To make sure you could sew out the design on a spare piece of fabric, don't even apply fabric, just note what happens and you'll know what is what.
You could print out the colour chart with the design picture and keep that as a reference and add your notes to that for future use.

Or you can tell us which design it was and I could have a look in my software.

I love applique. Hoop your material or stabilizer. First color is a generally placement. Place material on top and stitch second color. Do not unhoop, but cut around the outside of the material close to the stitching. Then run the rest of your colors. Do you have a sewing simulator? Run the design through it on slow and watch how many outlines you have.

Sarah I bought designs from that site and also couldnt work out where was the applique. NOT very clear. Hope some one can tell us more, specifically about Adorable Applique's designs
