I only associate polyurathane for varnish - is it the poly-vinyl that you have? I have stitched on it making the jar embroideries, but sometimes it takes a different foot to stitch on it. When I did this i used a tearaway suitable for the backing. I am sure a Cutie smarter than I will come along and get you the help with this.

I have not stitched on poly-vinyl but would agree with dlonnahawkins that a tear away would work. They make a teflon foot which she might be talking about. Here is a site I checked for a tip. Guess you could give it a try.
http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/review/readreview.pl?ID=1286
Have you ever been in need of a teflon foot but have none? or can't find it? or even need a teflon zipper foot? Here's what I do: put a piece of scotch magi tape on the underside of the foot, and voila! goodbye to friction and you can sew on leather, pvc and all other sticky materials with easeout.

I have stitched on polyurathane. I just hooped it with tear away stabilizer and it came out great. Try one with an easy design not to dense. Hugs Lynn.
