My collection of old sewing machines includes two hand-wind ones. The picture of the treadle that Sewmon posted reminds me of them. They still sew quite well. One is a Pfaff and my favourite.

Used to go to my girlfriends home just to make buttonholes on her mom's treadle machine. It made the best buttonholes. The treadle machines will probably still be sewing long after our electronic machines give out.

I learned on an old machine that had been converted to electricity. I have a soft place in my heart for the old machines.

I still have the old New Home my GM gave me in high school and still L*VING IT. They can handle it all...FIESTA ;D *2U

I also have an old Singer - converted to electricity. It is wonderful for going through several thicknesses of denim.

I had an old Pfaff too, I gave it to my daughter when she moves to Paris as a student. When I go to Paris I use it with pleasure and remind all the babies dresses I did with it !
