I am doing a bookmark, it calls for Red, and Vermillion. Is that a lighter or darker shade. Thanks in advance for your answer. Iva

Vermillion is on the orange-side. Go cardinal if you want darker.

Well - I know that I have seen it, but I had to look at google. They state:

It is somewhat similar to the color scarlet. Vermilion is not on the color wheel since the color is mixed with a slight amount of grey.

Don't know if that would help, but I would probably try a darker shade - but then it too would depend on what you are stitching.

Thank you all for your answers. I just do not have all the shades of red that I need I guess. Always something new.

Yes, Vermillion is like a Fire Engine Red with a little more orange tinge to it.

Vermillion is kind of an orangy red...not one of my favorite colors...use the colors you like. Personally I like to use burgundy or wine with reds others might use shades of pink... Regardless of the colors you chose I know your design will try out well.
