Earlier this week, I went into Goodwill looking for a scarf to use in my next project. I hit the jackpot! Not only did I find a scarf...but a skirt to match! Today I started cutting...and this is what I came up with! I have made other purses with this "kangaroo" pouch pocket front...and simply LOVE them! I used a placemat that I had, under the front pouch pocket. The straps form the "belt-loops" to hold the tie in place. I was pretty happy with the results...and would possibly make this style again. Do you suppose the lady who donated the skirt - will recognize it when I walk down the street with it over my shoulder? I put a smilebox together to show some close-up shots...click the link & enjoy!

Wow, wouldn't that be a great challenge, pick up a trift store item and reinvent it into something totally different. You have inspired me to check out the Goodwill store in town that just opened. Thanks

The purse is wonderful! The way I love purses I really should learn to make some for myself! You do a great job on yours! I have a beautiful red dress from Goodwill I bought several years ago that would never fit me but I loved the fabric and still have not made it into a purse!

then, GET BUSY! ha ha...I want to see it done this week...ok?
by bevintex 31 Jan 2011
I have the perfect book of patterns for this. The perfect handmade bag is the title and it's 35 totes, purses and more from recycled items. Gotta look through and see what i can find.

Not going to happen this week, lol. Our son is staying here most of the week and then 2-3 nights a week till he finds a job in the area he moved to this weekend, it's 60 miles away. He's on my computer the entire time he is here and that is where my machine is too. Need to find a good design for the purse too, love the one someone else made but I forget who, done in black and white....gotta search projects.

It's funny, I like to make them but don't actually carry one.

Ladies! Just dawned on me, watch what you are buying in the thrift store these days. I don't mean to be negative, but you may be coming home with more than you bargained for, like bed bugs.
BE CAREFUL!

Great work! What do you use as interlining to keep the shape so nicely?

I actually use some of my med weight stabilizer and a thin batting. It depends on the style purse, as to what or how much of each I use. I like them on the thicker side.

If that lady see this gorgeous purse, she will say "I used to have the perfect skirt to go with that purse" and you will just smile and say "you did?". Beautiful work. I bought some shirts at Goodwill to make into adult bibs. My father has Alzhemiers and sometimes eating is messy. I don't want them to "look" like a bib. My niece-in-law helped me design a fake shirt pattern but I haven't done it yet. Been busy with the new grandson coming and making paper dolls for the granddaughters. Becky

Asolutely love this bag, design, colours and love that it is recycled. Here in Spain we can't get many nice fabrics or they are very expensive.I recycle as much as I can, it is great fun and means I can save the pennies for something really good like silk.LOL.Would be proud to strut my stuff with that on my shoulder.Well Done !!!

I think it was bevintex that said something about a book she had...maybe she will see this and post the author. I don't use patterns for my purses...make them up as I go...:)
