I have tried: changing the needle, and the size of the needle 11 to 14, it is Schmetz embroidery , changing the WSS from Vilene to old standby, changing the thread, I throughly cleaned the top and bottom of the machine, I can't find any lint, or loose threads. I added a drop of oil to the top lifter where I always do. It is one of Yoriko's designs, a football jersey, so I knew it should be fine. I just can't seem to figure it out. I'm using the same thread on top and bottom, I tried thinner thread on the bottom at first, but changed to the same. What am I doing wrong???? What else can I try???

Decrease your top tension by 2 points, slow down your machine speed. Have You used the thread for FSL before? Somme threads just don't like stitching FSL.

I was having this same type of problem too. I went to titanium needles. I hope this will help.

I love the titanium needles also!!
I can break titanium needles just as fast as the regular ones. I think I'm just too rough on things. Thanks for your help! Flowers for everyone!

A burr on the tip of the needle will cause that too.

It was the Thread!!! I changed to METRO thread and the problem was completely solved! Thanks for your ideas.

Oh good. Glad you got it figured out. Seems you tried everything at first except the thread. Frustrating but good when you get it resolved.

Hi Jan, I'm so glad you found out the problem. Usually when the threads starts to fray for me, it is because of the worn out needles. I never had problems with the threads, although I don't use expensive ones. It's good to know that bad threads also can be the cause of the problem. Love and Hugs, Yoriko

I knew it wasn't the design! I also found out not to use Organ needles, so I used the schmetz. What kind do you use? Thanks for putting the Football designs on sale. I digitized the Packers logo and put it on the front and stitched it in green and gold. Too adorable.
I have Janome, so I use Organ needles, they are more appropriate for Janomes. For FSLs I use #14, it seems they are better than #11 for FSL. Thank you Jan.

Happened to me recently and I went through the same issue. In my case it was a Metro thread which my machine usually does not complain about. It works well as a Bobbin Thread with the FSL so I Just marked it as such and will use it up in bobbins.

So glad you discovered the problem. Sometimes i just slow the the speed down and this works too. Kay
