Have been given 6 x1000 spools of QA variegated colours. Need some advice on what designs to try it with, and any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Line work looks nice and it is fun to play around with variegated thread in alphabet/fonts. Leaves/leafs look amazing in a green/red/yellow coloration and some flowers turn out well. If you start with the same shade (pull the thread out until it starts at the same gradient color point) on each flower you can get them to look alike and it is intentional. You can use different variegated threads for different parts of the design. Sometimes the variegated threads don't work well with a design so do a sample.

QA threads are not very good. They shred and break.
You can use them in the bobbin for FSL.

I had the same problem with QA threads for about two years, till i came across the tip to use a blue tip needle from Janome and since that day I dont have any breaks. I have Brother machines.

Wow, really? My Brother embroidery machine hates the QA threads - I get shredding too - but my sewing machine is a Janome and will only sew nicely with the Blue Tips. I was under the impression that the Blue Tips are a different length to other machines' needles ... ? Schmetz in my Janome, well it just wont sew nicely. Hrm, now I'm wondering if I should try sacrificing one of my Blue Tips to try in my Brother machine (I only have one packet lol long drive to get more - about 3hrs) xXx

There are desgins especially digitied for varigated threads, but I can not remember where I saw them. Most varigated threads will give the appearance of stripes in some designs - I have used it in FSL, and it was not bad. Good luck with it. I am not familiary with QA threads.

Viking Thread Art Tapestry is a wonderful collection of designs just for varigated thread-pricy but very nice.
