y'day i tried 1st emb (very difficult trying to hoop it, have to get DH to do it before he goes to work in future) top thread went through to bottom and became birds nest. Any sugestions.

Oh dear mandy, your DH might want to take over the machine, and then you won't even get a look at it. That does have it's compensations though - you would have even more time to spend at *Cute* talking to us, haha. Hugs and flowers.

You will work at it and find a way - I am sure - if it doesn't happen - you could buy one of these devices - that make hooping easier. I can't think of the name of it - but have seen it and I lady that I know with really bad arthritis uses it. *4U

I get birfs nest if the top thread has not threaded properly. You should be able to pull thread through when foot is up but not pull through when foot is down * 4 U

Answered your other posting before I saw this one mandy, try *simple* designs until those bandages are removed, redwork and one-color work means that you don't have to re-thread your machine so often. As to your problem of the bird's nest, it does sound like a threading problem to me. If I remember correctly, it's your right hand that you injured, and you are right handed, which means that you are most probably trying to thread with your left - very difficult. *Watch and listen* very carefully as you thread, most machines make a faint click as the top thread goes into the tension holder (usually on the top of machine). After placing the bobbin in the holder, bring it up to the stitching area and then watch the bobbin as you pull some of the thread up, check that all looks like normal. Hope this helps, if it doesn't, teach your DH to embroider, and you ,my sweet, can spend all your time here talking to us, haha!!! Healing hugs and flowers to you mandy.

be certain to pull the bobbin thread to the top before stitching, then hold both upper and bobbin threads together when you start stitching.

I get birdsnest sometimes if I forget to lift the pressure foot lever, when changing threads. Try that.
