Now that this one is off the rack I can start to quilt the Christmaas one. I mentioned to Ramona that I would post this to show what a stack N whack is! I made this for my brother's as a wedding gift. I quilted it with tall slim oak leaves as they are a great symbol for a long & strong healthy marriage! It was hard! As I was in the very first class & our instructor was new to this style.

there are only 2 different fabrics here! No matter what you can never make the same design twice. You don't know what each block will look like until you sew it together.

thanks Carolyn they were thrilled to have it made by me, as they are the only ones in my family that I have made one for . I have 8 brothers & sisters! I am still trying to make quilts for my own kids!Well that's not entirely true I did do one for my dad years ago. & He still uses it when he watches tv

Very nice, and you did a great job. So, is the stack and whack the idea of stacking the fabric squares and then cutting them? I am trying to figure out where the name came from.

Yes you stack the layers of fabric, making sure the prints are lined up very, very accurately; then cut your pieces. In this case you use 8 layers, but I've seen some done with 6 - just depends upon the pattern you're using. You use just one fabric with a rather bold print and you'll be amazed at the variety of patterns you get.
your absolutely right Martine, and this fabric was really UGLY! & that's the kind that makes the best blocks, & my repeats were about 18inches, sew I have alot of variety with it!

Always been a fan of Stack N Whack since it came out. It makes for a very interesting quilt. I saw Bethany Reynolds introduce this on Alex Anderson's show, Simply Quilts. You have done a beautiful job.;)
