You would not need a stabilizer and you would need to use your quilting hoop. I have the Viking and it comes with a 150x150 Do All Quilters Hoop. This hoop has two inner hoops. One for thinner fabric and one for use with a quilt so it will accommadate the backing, batting and quilt top. You would have to consider how it's going to look on the back of your quilt so consider your threads. I don't know if you are just wanting to use a quilting design or if you are talking about a dense embroidery design. Do a test with the same fabrics you have and some batting.
