They grow to about 5 or 6 inches and are marsupials. The female sugar glider also possesses a pouch, in which they raise their young. These little gliders are nocturnal animals and spend almost their entire lives in
trees. In the wild, they live in colonies of between 6-10 gliders and spend much of their time foraging for food.
Sugar Gliders make excellent pets and adapt very readily to captivity
and can develop very strong relationships with humans. They are very intelligent and love to play. They are much smarter than a hamster or rat and have a much longer life-span, most living to be 10 or older if taken care of properly. I've adapted this note from a webpage.

Thanks Chris, this is what I like about Cute, not only do we learn about machine embroidery but life in general. Dont even know if I have come across these before as they certainly dont live in this part of the world. They do look cute but quite a lot of wildlife does, though often it is not. Id there a reason they have this name please?

They are called Sugar gliders because they tend to like the sweeter greens. Sugar Gliders also get their name from their "sweet tooth" and because they have a fold of furred skin stretching from their forefeet to their hind feet which they spread out like a kite to help them glide through the trees searching for insects and nectar!

You can buy these in Texas for a pet, if you have 200 dollars. I think they look too much like a rat and I'll save my money for embroidery supplies. LOL

Gee, I didn't think they would sell these Australian wildlife in America. They do take a lot of looking after but will reward you for they can live up to 15 years. Love Chris

Thanks Chris it's been a long time since I've even thought of a sugar glider. My niece had one that lived either 10 or 11 years, she treated it like her little baby. They are soooo cute and soft and very loving.

I just showed it to my hubby and told him I want one, he said the cat said yes so she can have a snack! That is the cutest thing! Thanks Chris for showing us the pic and letting us learn about it. My cat once caught a flying squirrel and brought it into the enclosed porch, took me almost 2 hours to catch it and set it free!

My cat caught a little possum back when we lived in our home at Valentine. I got bitten by it and by the next day my finger was throbbing big time. Of course Trevor was away and so I had to go to the doctor and get a course of Tetanus shots over a period of 6 weeks OUCH BIG TIME. I think the bite was better than those bloody great big Tetanus needles. Love Chris

There is a lady ho raises them in the state next to us and I have often thought that when I don't have a dog anymore I may buy one. They look so soft and cuddly.We had a white rat when we were kids. A cousin was a science major in college and they used them in the lab so he got us one. It was a wonderful pet. Never did bite and was easy to train. His name was Pinky.

It is very cute,my daughter was always asking one for Christmas, they are very expensive with cage and everything they need, it adds up around 300 dollars!! she never got it. When she was old enough she bought one, very cute but very agressive, she had to give it away.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that these Sugar Gliders are protected and you would need a special permit to keep one here in Australia. They should export some of the problem Sulphur Crested Cockatoos from the southern suburbs of Adelaide.
