Sarah, it is a type of fill in a design. There are satin fills, step fills, fancy fills. It is the way the stitches are laid in the fill and then for a step fill there are various ways for that fill to be created as well. Vicki

Never heard of step fill, but different software programmes use different jargon - can be quite confusing at times.
Bernina software calls some of my fills step fills and there are 30 different arrangements of them. They are under all the fills along with the satins, fancy, candlewick, blackwork, etc. It is a shame that all the machine can't have a universal language.....
Vicki - I went into Daintystitches.com - loads of $1 designs (sets) and a lot of them say stepfill - just wanted to know what it means. I do not even know what fills are!!!
Sarah....fills are the stitches that are used to fill the design. Like Mushu's design is mostly step stitches, just different angles and lengths & widths to make the fills (stitches) look different.
Wow. Thank you. Never heard that word either. Love this site!
Thanks Vicki. Now I know - learn something every day on this site.
Thanks Vicki I had no idea what stepfill was. Learned something new too!

Would it be when the design fills the area with short tacking like stitches but stitched in a way that it fills the design rather than a satin stitch. Would be used to fill a larger area.? Gee I hope this makes sense. Lyn
