Hoop up some WSS and choose a smallish design and have a go! You do need the same thread above and below. I did my first FSL with bobbin thread in both top and bottom because I was afraid to put embroidery thread in the bobbin!

Make sure you have good WSS as there are some that are not strong enough. I also hoop a double layer of WSS to make it stronger!

I am new at this also. Your stab needs to be hooped snuggly. and with my machine I had to slow down the speed or I got lots of thread breaks. I put in a new needle size 80 microtex and raised the tension several numbers. It takes longer to stitch out than I thought but it is very pretty. Good luck !

Hoop 2 layers of the fabric like looking WSS, use the same color embroidery thread in the bobbin and watch the miracle happen. After done cut as much of the WSS away, rinse or soak your design shortly. Pat it dry between 2 paper towels and after that lay flat to dry. That's the short of it.

There are a bunch of great tutorials here. If you are going to use Solvy, it must be Ultra Solvy or it will be too flimsy. I use the cloth like Vilene, and put a strip of paper towel on each side of the material as I hoop. It gives just enough resistance that it holds better.

Look at Embroidery Librairy and then in the projects. The tell you step by step. I only use stabiliser but not the plastic but non woven two layers and a fresh needle 75 or 90. I also use a anti slip (like you use with caravan to keep things in place) around the base of the hoop (corners special) so the WSS stay's better on its place and slow down your machine as it can on 400.
