Hi everyone. I am seasons and very new here and to embroidering. I too keep downloading designs...But unlike everyone here, I truly do not know what to do with them once downloaded. I know I want to use them. The problem I have is I recently bought a new Brother Inovis 900..It is a lovely machine and I have worked with the patterns on the actual machine. I have also learnt how to download them and if the right size or smaller than 3.9x3.9 as I have a 4x4 hoop all is well. I am trying really really hard to understand everything, but the more I research the more confused I become. I love evrything crafty and can sew for England. I wanted to make more beautiful items by adding embroidery. Now I have downloaded my editor, which I understand does just about everything. Some of the designs I love are too big for my hoop. I have resized them in 'My Editor' (free software) they appear on the screen to have shrunk. When I come to save them it gives me a list of the machines and several pes versions 1v, 4v 6v or pes this and pes that. I opted for Brother, babylock, berina generic, hoping this is the correct format, but the design has not shrunk. I must be doing something wrong. I do not know what all these v1 v4 v6 and other things stand for and why the design will not shrink. I read somewhere not to shrink more than 20% as the design distorts, so I have been careful not to do this. I wish I could find some online tutorial. There are so many answers I need. Well thank you for listening. If anyone can offer an answer you can reach me on janetbrimston@hotmail.com Many thanks you clever ladies.

Also if I see a design that is for the 4x4 hoop that is free. I will send you a pm so you can go get it!
I do this for leenova54. You can pm her I am sure she can also help you. She only uses the 4x4 designs.

I was really bad when I first started (not that long ago). I was so busy downloading everything from all kinds of sites that I didn't actually get any embroidery done - but then first things first - I needed a variety of designs first!
It's nice to have choices of what you want to use.
Right now I'm really glad I have all those designs as I'm making a quilt for each of my grandchildren. I'm using blue jean scraps and am using the 4x4 hoop and no I don't have enough designs yet. Trying to find enough for each quilt is difficult as they have to be suitable for each of them.
So gather all you can and keep right on - just like the rest of us.

Downloading them isnt the problem is getting them sorted into categories than backing them up. Im knee deep in that task right now. I wish I would have thought things out more thouroghly, alot of designs were free, but the download doesnt give the site which you received them. Now I try real hard to add a text file to each download. This way if it is something I really like I can check out that site again.

Of course we need all those designs! My husband keeps asking the silly question why I also have to BUY designs, since I have so many many many free ones.... But when I sit down to plan a new project, for example a present for a friends birthday or a hostess gift for a Saturday nite dinner, he is very impressed when I use 2 min to find almost whatever he is suggesting. The library of designs that grows on and on is a fantastic base for creativity. And yes, I know I will use only a very small part of them, but they all inspire me. Wish you all a very inspiring Sunday! Love Peggy

Thanks Peggy! You hit the nail on the head! Got an e-mail from My Gardened and there was a free little angel for free of course! When I opened the site there were four more cute little angels so I bought them all! LOL

I love free designs too but only download the ones that appeal to me.It is best to download as soon as you see designs because some are up for a short time or you can not find them when they are needed.A lot of time is spent sorting & filing them.
Just remember to BACK UP the designs -free & purchased designs- regularly in case of a disaster on RW DVDs, USB Sticks or external hard drives.Saves a lot of heart break

Boy!! I do backup and backup! My computer froze the other day and I thought that I would cry! I had downloaded so many designs from my Cute memembership and had not backed them up yet. All turned out well thank goodness! My problem is I love all the designs so I keep download all the time!
But I will be ready for any kind of design I need. LOL
Thanks Dawn
