I'm glad that they like it & I could make myself another one but then I get busy with something new & I don't go back & make that 1st thing again. Does anyone else have trouble saying "NO" besides me?

That is a good thing to happen and yes, I'd probably give it away as well. I haven't gotten to the point where I actually have time to do a project for myself. I'll let you know when/if that time ever comes!! :-)

My dear Loralye, I have given more items away - then I can count - it happens all the time - but I have also learned - that if I want something and it turns out nice and I am very proud of it - it shows in the way that I present it to another - they are bound to want one - so I often times - will just do two or six or whatever - while I am doing the one - one right after the other - then I have one for them and for me and a few extra - please go back and make yourself one and another for someone else - you will have gifts on hand all year long and you will be so pleased that you took the time to do it. Have some fun.

oooooooo yes all the time. It is mostly my mom, family or close friends, so i don't mind. But you are right about not getting back to making another one for your self. I love to sew and i love to see them smile, so it's all worth it :)

I do too & it's always someone I care about. The other day I went to put out a tulip tablerunner that I made last year & my dh bought a little tulip candy dish for it & then I remembered that I gave it away! Oh well

I rarely have time to do projects for myself so I can't say that has happened to me.

I think it is ingrained in all those who sew, knit, or crochet. I've never known someone that started sewing that didn't even take it up without it being because they wanted to be able to make things for others so that their lives could be better off. People who are into fiber crafts of any kind are usually the most loving and giving people. To this day I've made things for just about everyone in my family, and some more than others, but like you all everytime I go to make something for myself someone will always see it and that item ends up being given to them. My 11 year old and my granddaughter usually try to get it before anyone else. But the plan is to teach them how to sew, so that they can keep the tradition of sewing for others with love alive for decades to come.

It happens to me alot, my sister is the worst. Next time embroider your name on it and then its personalized just for you. Or do what Shirlene says . Make 2 or more.

You have to learn to say, "I am so pleased and complimented that you like it, but machine embroidery is quite time consuming and an expensive craft, I will try to find time to make you one for $XX.00. O.K.??" I spent so much of my life trying to please others, and I
finally reconsidered my situation, when my doctor asked, " Have you ever given thought that YOU need to take time for YOU; you have ONE life; do not give it all to others! Do things that give YOU pleasure!" I am now an old woman, and for the past twenty years I conjure up that remark whenever someone wants a favor or to reward you for your efforts. I am still generous, but more choosy for whom I spend my precious time!

It happens alot to me also. I'll be making a quilt for myself and before it is done someone is wanting it. I have starting a list and when they ask , I just tell them I will put them on the list. lol, my list gets very long sometime. I love making things for the younger ones , so sometime they get moved up the list.

It is sew much easier to make things for kids & quicker too! sometimes anyway! I like the list idea but I'm afraid I get too board making repetative things!

In my year of embroidering I have not made anything that I intended to keep for myself. Always planning gifts for family and friends. Except for my Ikea lamp shades since nobody else around here has one of the lamps.

I have a very good friend and she isn't in to crafts at all but when I make something her standard saying is "where's mine" its as if I can click my finger and duplicate the item, she does not realise the amount of time that is required. So she usually gets one for the next birthday or just as a surprise gift...

I have a "friend" like that too but she knows how expensive it is as I have made a point of taking her with me to buy fabric every sew often. But she likes to pick up Timmies for me, sew it's ok

I have made somethings with my initial or name so i can keep it, but so many of the items I have stitched do go to other homes for special loving lives. Helen

Yes, all the time, lol! Funny how sometimes you run across people who think you have all the time in the world because you have a hobby you love! Its fun to give something as a gift when it suites you, but hard to say, no thats mine, when it doesn't suite you to give it away. Especially if its a one of a kind. I love to make things to give to people, but every once in a while something is "mine" only, lol! Hugs

Yep happens to me all the time. I never have anything of my own to keep. Somehow it goes out the door with someone. Then when you want to show off your things you have none. I have trouble sying NO too. Suzanne
