I finally finished this bag, love the pattern but was a nightmare using the decorative fabric. The fabric was to thick and had to handstitch and broke the zipper

Noone would know, looking at that, that you had such trouble. Many modern machines don't handle thick fabric so well. Had you done the zipper first, then the rest, or zipper last? Maybe there are ways to make this project work easier. The needle would have made a difference as well. I often sew really thick fabrics, but in my work, I make dog leads and collars, so thick fabrics are never as thick as those. It's just the way you work around them. I hope the bag was for yourself, as I hope you can enjoy using it after such a lot of hassle!
