I've had that problem off and on since I got my machine , 2 years ago. Is it the bobbin thread or the upper thread that seems to be the problem? I have found that if it is the bobbin thread - it's usually a result of ,uhm, "operator error" I have the bobbing case in funky, I've rushed and missed threading it right.....(duh) or some other blunder. Have you been using the cut thread function (this give my machine fits if I ask it to cut the thread while doing regular sewing with the machine) Not sure this helps any...but WELCOME TO CUTE!!!! it is your upper tension. when you thread make sure you are getting in the upper tension disk, then make sure you put the foot down and give a light tug on your thread if you can pull it with the foot down it is not in the tension or your tension needs adjustment. I just had mine adjusted, it was in for a new screen and they had adjusted my tension well when I got it home and tried to do embroidery it would do a stitch or 2 and them the tension was gone, I took it back and he said he went into the embroidery mode and adjusted it. It is working better than it ever had, not one single slip.

I am having the same problem with my Brother ULT. I just read somewhere that thread can break off in the upper thread tension and you have to take the cover off to get it all out. You might also check to see if you have any little threads caught somewhere.

I have the Designer 1 and have had this problem. So, I first check to make sure that I have threaded the bobbin case properly. I then check the top thread, if it isn't threaded right it can be a touchy little darling. Sometimes too if you are using stabiliser and it gets a tear in it it can upset the threads. I just clean out all the parts and run some Dental floss through the tension guards on the top of the machine - just in case there are some little dust bunnies or loose pieces of thread in there. You never know - try everything. Even a new needle. I've done this before. Love and blessings Chris

Yes, I've had that problem with my designer se also. Try flipping over the bobbin. Also, as soon as you detect the nest forming, stop, cut all threads, clean it up and then keep going. Sometimes happens when the design doesnt have a proper cut of the thread when jumping to a new spot.

This happens with my Diamond when the top thread has jumped out of the take up lever and I haven't noticed it. This used to happen so often before it was driving me insane but when I took the machine in for a yearly service the mechanic fitted a little guide to the lever and the thread doesn't jump out any more.

If your machine doesn't have this added guide on the take up lever you should contact your Viking dealer and ask about having it put on. It shouldn't cost you anything as the problem is a design fault that needed to be fixed under warranty.
