Why does the bobbin thread pull to the top of the towel. Besides using the same color of thread for the top and bottom is there anything I can do different to stop this? Thanks Hugs Dawn

i always put that clear plastic like wws on top before i sew & on my machine it stops it ???Carolyn

I do the same as Carolyn & this also prevents the design from sinking into the towel!

I personally don't like the plastic water soluble solvy. I use the meshlike fabric one and it prevents the pile from coming through. Love and blessings Chris

I haven't had any problems with the plastic type soly. In fact Bernina agent sells the laundry bags and they use it on all their towela they embroider. You can't very well wash a customers brand new towels they are having embroidered for a gift. The plastic just tears away.
I use my scraps of wss vilene for the top of towels. I always explain to customers that I rinse the towel after it is stitched to make the towel fluffy and to remove the remnants of the stabilisers. I rinse it, put it in the clothes dryer, I replace the labels and place a wee note to say it has been rinsed with softener. Had about 50 to do for last xmas orders. No complaints, Customers say it makes them look great. Helen

I have always understood that when the bobbin thread pulls through to the top that the tension is off! Check it; see if that helps!

Dawn - I have not had this problem with towels or the plastic topping. I do often get the bobbin thread showing up when I am using black or other dark colours on cottons but I just change the tension. Hope all your answers help. Sarah.

I've not had that problem either, knock on wood. Have you re-threaded or reinstalled your bobbin?

Yes I change the bobbin out and rethread the needle each time it changed colors also.

perhaps you can make the tension of the upperthread less, Because it seems to me because of the high tension of the upperthread the bobbin thread is visible.

I have had that problem especially with dark colors and it is usually my tension. I take my machine back to the shop where I bought it and they adjust it for me. I, too, have had to use the same color bobbin threads just to finish a design before I get the tension fixed right.

Check your tension by test stitching on normal fabric. You may need to tighten your bobbin tension. A lot of people won't even attempt this but others who will do it all the time, like me. I have a blog post on how to do it if you want to give it a try.
