Sorry I have no idea but you are one brave person to take any of those apart. I've watched our tech take brothers apart and there are only 2 places I'd ever take apart. Hope someone can help. Good Luck *4U

Sorry Carolyn, my Husky sewing maschine might be totally different it is an old one and the cover comes of easy just with screws. Hope someone has an answer handy.

I hope you manage to come right with this Carolyn - sounds a little scary.

Your fixer guy told you over the phone what to do. If i called for instructions this is what he would tell me. Unplug it,put it in my car and drive it as quickly as possible to his shop. Once there he and only he would have to analyze,scrutinize and prescribe a somewhat expensive cure for what ails the poor machine. No freebies on fixin around here. LOL

Call the Brother tec back & see if he can tell you how to get the cover off. But I'd be very, very careful! We were told if we took the front off the machine the warrenty would be voided. But then, they only honor most of it 1 yr anyway! So your D2 is probably out of warrenty anyway! Viking used to be really good about warrenties, upgrades, etc...but surely no longer!! Keep us posted as to what you do!

Try finding a Husqvarna site on yahoo groups. They usually have tuts about things like that.

Why do you want to take it off? Husqvarna's do not need to be oiled. The brother is a lot different than the D2. I don't think I would take a chance on it.

I would be to scared to take the cover off! I sure hope everything works out for you! I thought I had a problem with my Designer 1 by thread being stuck in my machine and took it Joann's were the gal checked everything and thank goodness nothing was wrong with the machine!!!

I agree with stitchinkate~~~ Husqvarnas' are self oilers... even my old sew easy that I have had for 20 years! I'd check for thread and lint build up.

Oh my I hear they say somemachines do not need oiled and I worked in a repair shop and we repaired every kind even Husky machines and the tech says every machine needs oiled. It may go for years but sooner or later they can dry out and lock up. We saw a lot of that over the 16 years of business. Tech says any machine that has those moving parts need oiled. Machine oil will dry up eventually. May take years but it can happen. Don't want to sound like a know it all but all my years in the business I've learned they all need oil.

Oh dear! I am to chicken to do anything like that if I have a problem I take it to the repair man! Hope you get an answer. I was told my husqvarna was self oiling have no idea what the means. Hugs sally

If you take that cover off the Designer 2, you will VOID the warranty. I work for Viking and that is a BIG no no.

How far away is the brother tech from where you are?

It's a pity you can't get your hands on the repair manual. I have one for my Elna and it is complicated the way the covers have been put on, all in different sections and some sections you cannot access the screws holding it until you have remove another section first. It starts at the needle threader housing, then you have to remove a section from underneath, then a back section, etc. etc.

People are told that today's machines are self oiling only because people do stupid things when they don't know what they are doing.

ALL machines need oiling!!! Full stop. End of story.

When you take your machines in for its yearly service IT GETS OILED!!!

They don't trust women to oil their own machines in case they pour oil (OR WORSE) onto the motherboard or some other computer section.

Older machines didn't have computers in them and the user manuals came with full instructions on how to strip down, oil, repair and replace, anything and everything inside the machine.

But some women will never be mechanically minded, just as some men can't boil water. That is why we have mechanics and restaurants.

I would do a search online for a repair manual for your Husky, just in case its cover is as complicated to remove as my Elna one is.
