I called brother's help line and they still could not resolve the problem. They said it must be a windows update causing the problem. I had no updates during the time it stopped working. I checked on line and have seen others with this problem too, but no solutions.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

When you open your ped basic you should have the lastest version 1.07.. if not please go to the brother website and update your ped basic.

upgrading did not help in my situation. what i had to do to get it to work in win 7 64 bit was to copy the designs that i wanted to put on the card to a folder in the ped basic software called "samples". lucky for me i still have other computers with xp and vista.

I have a Brother - on Brother's website the have downloads for the PED Basics - you will need to uninstall the program, and use the one off the website. It's working fine on my Windows 7 - but you cannot use the CD.

Hello, Ladycougar gave you the answer, you would have to unisntall the program, go to Brother Site and install the program again, do not use the CD that comes with the kit. Good luck

Ped basic was working for 4 months (down load the drivers and the program from the web site.) After it happened I unistalled every thing and reinstalled it. Called brother and did it again with the rep on the line and he finally said _ got me? Maybe it is a windows problem.
So I am frustrated. I was hoping someone else knew what to do.

I had the same problem. I unistalled like a hundred times and it didn't work. Finally my husband cleaned the windows register (I can not explain how he did it) and the ped started to work again. Maybe you should find somebody who knows how to work with Windows to help you

Thanks - at least you have given me a clue of where to begin.
I cleaned my Windows registry, but the program still wouldn't work. Does your husband use a special registry-cleaning program or did he do something special to make yours work?

From what I've seen of Windows 7, I think I'll keep my XP. Sure didn't like Vista and this doesn't seem any better. I keep reading all the input here and it doesn't sound good.
