I also think back to the early settlers and people who dared to think they could climb up these falls so they actually built paths and stairs. Driving in on Old or New Priest Grade is also treacherous. They did this with horses? Wagons?
We hiked up the Mist Trail to Vernal Falls. We thought we had gone all the way because everyone was turning back at a certain point but we realized later that we could have gone farther. I think it was too wet and slippery for some people. Personally, I'm scared of heights. Going up wasn't a problem but coming down was scary. Not just the steep steps but my legs kept wobbling from of the long climb up we had just done. We took a lot of breaks. Fortunately DH held my hand and was very patient. This hike was about 2 hours round trip. Some of our friends hiked to the top of Yosemite Falls which is 6 -8 hours round trip!
