This is the ongoing project that we are doing at our Monday night sit and sew. We are "sewing with our feet". Each week we are trying to use a different foot to remind us what we can do. The dark area around the design is done with the gimping foot. That was a first for me. The next week, we chose the designs to put into 2 of the blocks. My deisgns came from EmbLibrary, and are especailly digitied for varigated threads. I love the way they turned out, but it would show better on darker linen.

That is such a good idea to learn how to do other things with the machine. Nice designs.

I don't think I know what a gimping foot is. This is lovely work and I like your idea of putting this varigated thread work on black for a quilt.

Well - I don't even know how I even had it, but gimping is where a stitch is done over cording and leaves a raised welt area. We took one week trying to get the look that we wanted. It is fun seeing how everyone's is coming along - each of us has different tastes. I am just doing something out of the norm for me - just changing things up.
Oh my, I have sewn for more than 60 years, both professionly and for pleasure, but I have never used a gimping foot. I guess I've never sewn anything that required the use of one.
