My neibour has a lot of prewound bobbin empty cases!!!Can i rewind them and reuse them????Has anyone done this??? carolyn

I heard of peoplt doing it. But my dealer says not to. I don't think they wind properly. The viking machine have special bobbins that need to be place on the a certain direction and seems smaller on one side. I don't know about other brands.

I have rewound the empty plastic sided bobbins from NEBS and Metro to use for my regular sewing machine. They work fine. The prewound work perfectly in my Brother ULT embroidery machine so that is why I tried rewinding them for regular sewing. I can't get nearly as much thread on them as they originally came from NEBS and Metro but work fine.

I also give batches of them to 2 of my neighbors that sew. They have really appreciated receiving them.
Several years ago I started putting spools of thread along with any bobbins containing matching thread into one of those 4 x 6 plastic craft bags. They work great. Now I don't end up winding another bobbin because I can't find one that matches. They are now together. Having the extras from prewound bobbins helps me not having to unwind a color just because I don't have anymore empties. I am trying hard to get organized.

I have BabyLock machines and rewind plastic bobbins all the time. They've worked perfectly for me. Just be sure to check that the empties are ones for your machines. :)

Do you have to drill a tiny hole through the side first? So that you can hold the tail of the thread while it starts to fill? I've wondered myself, if they could be refilled. If you don't drill a hole, how do you hold the tail? lol hope my question makes sense. xXx

Dana, you just need to start winding the thread manually to lock the end of the thread onto the bobbin, then put the bobbin in the winder to finish it. Three or four turns by hand should hold it in place.

Factory wound bobbins have more thread on them, but the ones you rewind yourself work fine. At least, I have had no problems with rewinding and using them.

I have the plastic sided ones from MetroEmb.com and I wind them with the colors I need for satin stitching edges or FSL all the time - no issues. I do have to do them on my sidewinder tho - my machine will only do the taller ones (and I use the shorter ones with the bobbin pin for prewounds).
