How do you add a favorite topic. I see a box on the left that says "my favorite topics"

I think it is automatically done by the site software. Probably determined by where you go the most on this site.

It says "Not added favourite topics." Thats why I ask.

Partly right sewmom. Your tags are added automatically every time you create a post and add TAGS to your post so others can find it.
You can check this out by adding a tag to this post then go back and look at your favourite tags again, then you can tell me if I am correct or not. :-)))

Actually This is only for My Topics.
I just realised the "favourite" topics doesn't seem to reflect anything because it says my favourite topic is "tip" but I don't remember doing anything to add 'tip' to favourites.
So Sewmom COULD be right or it could be based on the tag you use most on your own posts. I'm going to try an experiment and see if mine changes. :-)

OK, here's what happens,
when you click on a tag on the left side of this page, not only does it find all the posts that have that tag, but at the top of the messages it shows the tag you clicked on, in bold writing and it has a message beside it that says "add this topic to my favourites" so you click on the plus sign and your favourite will then show that tag.
Clear as mud!!! LOL!!!
