I own a Viking Designer 1, & 3D Professional software. Does anyone know if it is compatible to windows 7 & if so how do I do it?

Yes - it is compatible. You need to dl & install the latest HASP file (I think it is v2.7, if I remember correctly), to enable your Dongle. Depending on which version of Windows 7 you are running it with, you may need to check the box that enables older programs that were meant to run on earlier versions of Windows to now run on Windows 7. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I thought it didn't run on windows 7 and viking was not updating the software. since they came out with 5D I will be surprised if they continue updating 4D.
I think that is why so many people were selling their 3D software.

I have 3D Professional, and I am not selling it. I got mine to work well with Windows 7 Home Edition, when I had to get my new laptop a year ago. I will not purchase any future Viking software - it is way too expensive and they do not provide support for the older versions, just expect you to buy the latest release of their software which I am not doing. I will contnue to keep my 3D running as long as possible.

I use 4D Extra with windows 7 and have not had a problem. As laffma1 said I did have to update the software through the Viking site for windows 7. Use your "smart update" feature.

Here is a link to a document Janice Henning created for 3D and Vista or Windows 7. Hope it helps you. I too own a Designer 1 and am still using 3D Pro (too expensive to upgrade). I purchased a computer from a company that recycles corporate and educational computers that uses XP specifically and exclusively for my designs and software. Now I don't worry about the issues with Vista or Windows 7. I got it with lots of memory and a floppy drive as my Designer 1 does not use USB (less than $200). 3D Pro is no longer supported on smart updates but if you need the upgrade to 7.25 you can get to it using smart updates as stated in Janice's doc. You will have to call them if you have any issues or need any other files. There are a few other websites that do have info regarding 3D and Windows 7. I will try to find them as well as previous questions that have been answered here already. Other cuties may find them before I do. Good Luck. -- Aileen
