I wanted to safe a file in the right folder and everything was gone. The total folder of "embroidery designs" was not visible: gone. So I must admit> I was in panic, did not understand was had happened. Before that, I had some problems with internet explorer and my pc mouse didn't want to do it my way. But would that cause the lost.

Thanks to a friend who is a PC expert I have everything back again. What was the case...

because of my mouse doing his own way ( not my way) he had taken the whole folder into another folder called: my music.
I would never have found this myself. So I was so happy to have a friend who could tell me by phone exactly how to search for the embroiderydesigns,

So I know now they cannot disappear at once somewhere in the pc they are hidden. But I hope you never have to experience this like I did. Hugs for you all.

Thank you Gerry, for sharing this story with us; I have inadvertantly moved things around and had a difficult time, finding them again. Glad your designs were not gone!

Similar problem is when I would hold and drop files and knew they went to the wrong place but not sure what file. Under edit on my computer there is a undo feature I've used several times. A little upsetting moment for you. It's good you got yours located again.

I'm happy to hear that you found your files. I've learned a hard lesson myself. If your computer will not allow you to bookmark anything (as a new problem) and starts giving you other errors, be sure to check to see if the files are actually saved once you turn off your computer. I had that problem and endured for a couple months before I was finally able to get a new computer. ALL files that I had downloaded and saved were actually not saved at all. They were deleted when I turned off the computer. The motherboard was going out, and as a result, I went to a lot of work and thought I had stuff when I didn't. I have several font sets that are only partially done as a result. I don't even know now what I don't have.

The drag n drop feature in windows is a slippery one- have to be careful! Happens to all of us; the files sometimes slip into another file or into another library. Now, I put the d/l on the desktop and bring up the window where I want them to go; place it immediately next to the d/l and its easier to control the drag ....Wish we could use the send to feature; but it doesn't work for everything.Huff,puff.....no smooth sailing yet.
Glad you retrieved everything.

Why don't you buy yourself some re-writable DVD's and copy your designs onto them.
They are as cheap as chips so you can have one for each category.
Once you have formatted them to data files you can just 'drag and drop' or 'copy and paste', just like your ordinary "C" drive

Ask your friend to guide you through the formatting process using Nero InCD.

The reason I believe these to be better than USB sticks, is because USB sticks will fail unexpectedly, also it is so easy to break the flimsy tops off them, if they get wet they are ruined and you can't create a nice picture index cover for them.

Hugs and roses, Meganne

Glad yours was an easy fix. I'm still trying to recover from a major attack last week. Although I use AVG Security, I got hit with an attack that caused AVG to disable all of my .exe files; hence, there wasn't one program on my computer that worked. I spent six hours of nonstop screen sharing with technical support to get a workable computer. Luckily, I had a backup of my embroidery files. When I checked my computer after the technician "fixed" it, most of my designs really did disappear! The only good thing about it is I can reorganize them and delete the ones I don't really want anymore before putting them back on my main computer.

AVG seems a popular product, however I also hear of a lot of major issues with people who use it. I'm about to replace my CA which is about to expire and am going to try the Trend one this time. I use a paid for Anti-virus/Firewall and 2 freebie spyware defenders. My PC & designs are worth too much to me for me to rely on just the freeware ones :)

oh dear. hope you get everything fixed soon

You were extremely lucky the they were still on your computer .I lost my main embroidery folder earlier this year & I hadn't backed up for about 18months.I"m still getting it sorted out but I now have a external hard drive which I back up all my embroidery files every month, plus any other file which I consider important.Rewritable dvds are good for backing up too.
