Hi "itskat" and welcome. Any sewing machine can do Applique. It doesn't have to be an embroidery machine, but if it is an embroidery machine you just hoop your fabric as normal. If you have the applique design all set up each colour thread change tells you where to put the next piece of applique. There are great tutorials on applique on several embroidery sites.
