I know that for labels and such most people charge $1 per 1000 stitches. It adds up pretty fast tho, I usually charge by the design an what I think is fair.

I know that you can charge $1 for 1,000 stitches but around here that would not sell at all. It would be a joke.
EX. last year at our church's silent auction for missions work, I made a large cross from EmbLibrary and put a starting price at $10 and it got one bid...
yep you guessed it....$10. I felt that the church got cheated but it is probably easier to charge more if you are selling with your price attached, but it wouldn't got here at all. That cross had 25,179 stitches which translates to $2.50 per $10,000 stitches.....

This is very hard to do and its worse when its a friend.I just say i would like maybeeeeeeeeeeee ten dollars and i then say Do you think thats fair???This gives them a chance to say whats on/in their hearts!!carolyn

I have never charged for anything I have done. If a friend asks me to do something specific I usually bring the design up so they can see the colors & ask them to bring me a new spool of thread for each color and if It needs special stabilizer I have them get that .I often invite them to come and watch the design stitch out so they realize it does take quite a lot of time but, As they have no use for embroidery thread they usually just tell me to keep it and I consider that my "pay". The goodwill goes both ways and they don't mind asking me to do another project later( If it uses some of the same colors they brought for the 1st design I use that) and I enjoy doing it. Doing charity items you almost have to just consider it your donation-I have never felt that even basic expenses were covered. Hope this persepctive helps you.

I work fairly inexpensivly,,,and I don't charge by the stitches, most people couldn't afford that....I charge by the size of the hoop, usually $5 for anything that fits into a 4x4 $10 for 5x7, multi-hoop, it depends on the design. If they are really dense or if I am using a metallic thread, I adjust the price upward. The least I charge is $5, because of the cost of stabilizer, and my time just for setting up and hooping.

I have just started making embroidery blocks for quilts they are 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 blocks & are filled 4 x 4 designs. A friend of mine that does digitizing said I should at least charge $3 a block. She does redwork blocks & charges $1 a block. I like most give all my stuff away but decided to made a couple of sets of blocks to sell at my quilt club meeting to those that do not have embroidery machines. I would charge $4 a design it I make a 5 x 7. Hope this helps you some.

I, too, charge $5 for a monogram, simple design, phrase, etc that goes in a 4x4 hoop. Sometimes it's way over the 5000 stitches, sometimes it's under. So it sorta balances out. Then when it gets larger, I go up. You will not make any money but need to at least pay for your supplies!!
