Some time ago, I came across an "Ann the Gran" site which just had free downloads. Now when I go into her site there are just some freebies along with other designs. Was I dreaming?

When I got my first emb machine about 6 yrs ago my dealer recommended Ann the Gran for good freebies. At first it was kinda fun, then several years ago they changed how they do things and it's not so fun. You have to go thru all the catergories to find the little green free dl thingy and the freebies are not really that good anymore. I don't go there much anymore. I get the email for the blogs and if it's something I might like I'll go check it out. Carol

i do agree with you, years ago they had a lot of really great freebies, I cant be bothered to look for the arrow and then download small designs. I have managed to find some rather nice ones on the archive pages though. One just needs a lot of patience

Tha same for me, since they changed all on the site I don't go there anymore

I think that Ann's husband died and she gave up some of the responsibility with the site. She still works on some parts of the site but I am not sure if she still owns it.

It has changed a lot since I first started going there. It is much harder to find the free designs.

You now have to pay for a membership to Ann The Grans site in order to download the "DONATED Free Designs" I emphasize donated because it was once like CUTIES now she is basically selling others work with out their permission. It burns me as I donated a design when she first opened her site many years ago. I have since posted that free design here for others to enjoy. I was told Ann sold her site but yet she is still shown as one of the owners...so I still feel put upon for what she has done.

I remember quite a few years ago she tried a scam of e-mailing everyone the new donated designs for a PRICE...then she tried to SELL CD's of the donated designs. But the people who donated got angry and she desided not to. I guess this was her last resort to make a profit from others peoples work and get away with it. Really a shame...but I always had a feeling from how she ran her site and when she was on some of the embroidery groups, and when she first started out, she was kind of a User. :(

That would make you mad, it is very rude indeed to sell what others have given out of the goodness of their heart. It is a good thing you now have somewhere else to share, but not everyone would no that so some people are probably paying for something you wanted to give to them.

I remember finding ann the gran when I got my first machine in 1999. I downloaded a few of the freebies, The last time I was there I noticed how different it was, it is now really hard to navigate and as I recall they had made it much harder to get the freebies unless you were in the club. I have not been for a while because I never download designs any more at all.

Now this makes sense. Yes, used to be we could go and download all sorts of awesome stuff, but then it all changed. Now when the "newsletter/ad" comes in, it is marked by my ISP as possible scam. Thanks for all of the information. Used to be's don't count anymore....

I used to use Ann the Gran's site and get lots of freebies from her freebies page, now it has all changed and you have to search for the freebies.

I keep getting solicitations to buy the AnntheGran designs as an advertisement here on Cute. If I had donated a design and it was being sold, I'd be pretty annoyed too.
All those folks that donated need to come here and post them on Cute, and we will shower them with flowers!

I have it on good authority (one of the original Digitisers) that AnnTheGran site was originally set up by a group of digitisers to share their designs.

Some time ago it was taken over by an Embroidery Machine Company, which is now running it for profit.

Hence the changes.
