7-14-2011 * FRUSTRATED: When sewing the elastic ends together, why is my bobbin getting nested? I am using a BP needle and the zig zag stitch...TIA ;D

I take a piece of fabric larger than the elastic and butt the elastic ends over top of the fabric piece. This eliminates the lump where you would overlap the two ends and feeds through the machine better. A zig-zag stitch works well with the elastic but a straight stitch done twice works also.

I found this picture of what I was trying to tell you. Not quite what I do but you have the idea of how the two ends are butted to the fabric scrap. I just zig-zag across both ends and then right down the center joining them to the fabric scrap.

Woah, what a good idea! I've been doing the X with a square (like in the pic) but overlapping the elastic.
I also do it this way but overlap the ends a little and have no problem.

I noticed on my under wear long ago how they did it & it,s like the picture capoodle shows only they used satin. This seems to be the best way Monica. Happy sewing/Lillian

Lillian this is the best way I always hated to put elastic in pants and boy have ai made my share with my own and e step grand kids stayed busy. Lenamae
