I am getting very frustrated with my website, people are experiencing an empty shopping cart after they have put something in it. I am sure this happens more often than I am aware of. So I am considering changing the entire site. One of the problems I will have in the short term is that new user will have to enter a lot of info that I don't need or want in order to register, it may be a while before I can change that. the site will be completely different. Do people think it is a good idea to change to fix a the shopping cart proble? I would be so grateful for opinions on this.

If you have not been to my site it is here

You should contact your HOST provider. They may be able to fix the problem for you. Most hosts have Live Chat where you can get help for this sort of stuff. Go to Cube Cart Forums, you can get alot of help in there.

Thank you, the host provider can only do so much, The problem is with the cart software. So I think I will upgrade.

I just registered on your site and then put something in my cart and it showed up in my cart. I wonder if people are not logging in before they put something in their cart. If that is the case then they would not see anything in their cart until they log in and then place something in their cart. I only am suggesting that this may be the problem. I would investigate that possibility before I would redo a web site. I manage a web site and setting up new is a lot of work. Hugs Cindy B.

I tried it both ways (logged in first and not logged in first) 2 days ago and had a problem but it was fine yesterday. See my other comment here for today's different problem.

That is the frustrating part Cindy, it only happens to some people some times. it makes if very hard to identify the problem.

Dear Alice, the problem I have is the next, I log in and then look tom the design of the day, when I like it I put it on the card and the screen says ADDED to the card. When I open the card I can see the design is on the card. BUT I do knot get the yellow "check out" button to press on. I did download 2 designs in the beginning so I know how it works and I do see there is 1 item on my card so that is not the problem. I don;t know if I help you and you have offered very kind to send me the designs, but I don;t think that is neccesary although it is a very kind offer, I just wanted you to know that there was a problem. I hope you'll have a great weekend and don;t worry to much avout building a new site because that is a lot of work. Higs Carla

Thanks Carla, I will try not to worry about it but I think it will be difficult not to. I am so sorry you have been having problems and I will get it fixed one way or the other.

Yesterday's design went into the cart just fine and I was able to checkout. But today I logged in and ordered just fine but when I went to my orders to download it said I have to log in. I was already logged in so that doesn't make sense. I tried logging in again and went to my orders and it said I need to log in again. So this is a different problem than 2 days ago.

I just registered and tried several different ways to add the free daily design to my cart. It never did show up there even though it said 1 item was in my cart. I tried adding 2 to the cart but still nothing. I tried emptying the cart and starting over, still nothing. I tried using the link on the left side of the screen but that did not work either. I tried logging in again even though I was already logged in but that did not work either.

I was using the latest version of Firefox if that helps you.

I am wondering if it is new registrants that this is happening to. Is it possible that the cart is not immediately available for new people registering. Perhaps that would be a question to pose to your cart provider.

I sincerely hope you get to the bottom of this quickly. There is no way to know how many people this has happened to or how much business you are missing.

If there is any other way to test it for you I will be glad to. Just email me at lewismm@bellsouth.net.

Marcelle this happens to people who have been registered for ages. It is very random. I do worry that it is happening to people who don't let me know about it, I am sure that some people get frustrated and just don't come back. Thank you for your offer to help I really appreciate it. I think I will upgrade to the new version because I think it will work better.
by marcellelewis 22 Jul 2011
I am curious. What shopping cart are you using?

I am running cubecart version 4 but I have it heavily moded with custom skins etc.. I think this may be the problem, version 5 has a skin that I would be happy to use so I would not have to modify much and thus hopefully it would be more stable.

I am a registered user and din't have any trouble until just recently. The design shows up in the cart on the left of the screen, but doesn't get transfered to the checkout area. Tried logging in again and placed item in cart but the checkout basket was empty.

Alice, did this problem start after you added the Wish list capibility? If so that might be your problem. Instead of redoing your site, just try putting the site back to the way it was before the problem started. If that ends the problem, then you have a starting point. My DH is a computer programmer and website guru and that what he does when he comes across a problem that wasn't there previously. *4u

Thank you Yoriko. I am going to get the technical experts to overhaul the store in the next few days. Sometimes you just have to pay the experts.

Hi Alice, I have had the same problem the last two days - tried both logging in before or after. Didn't work. Figured you must have a hungry Bunyip in your Shopping Cart.

Ha ha, if I could find that bunyip I could fix my store and sell the photos of him for a small fortune.

Sorry to say, but tonight I tried again to see what the issues were on your web site. I tried to put free item in my cart and it showed that it was in my cart, but when I went to check out the basket was empty. Your web host should be able to fix things on their end of the site. I know that the web site I maintain allows my host to fix issues. I numerous scenarios but nothing worked to night. Cindy B.

Cindy I have decided I am going to upgrade the entire site. I think that some of the modifications that I have on the site are causing the problem. Thank you so much for letting me know.

I have been having this problem also when using internet explorer. I tried correcting via the directions in troubleshooting. That did not help. I was able to get it a few times using Firefox. Then that stopped working also. I have Safari on another computer which worked for 2 days now that does not work either. It is frustrating but knowing that other people are having the same problem and that you are working on it keeps me checking back on a daily basis to see if it is corrected. In this particular case I can live with the frustration. You are a caring and dedicated person who is trying to give us something free and I appreciate your effort and wonderful designs.

Part of the problem, which makes detection of the problem and therefore the solution, is that it is intermittent. There are some days where I can go there and nothing will "stay" in the cart. Other times it works beautifully. And even other times, things get added to the cart when I'm just browsing. I would contact your web host to see if there is anything they can do to help you with the problem. After all, your business is at stake here. I would post a note your website, stating that gremlins are gobbling up some shopping carts, so folks just don't get frustrated and go elsewhere. You have some fantastic designs, and you want to keep your customers. Is there a way to have a secondary check-out method, so if Method A isn't working, customers can use Method B instead? Good luck.

thank you for that, I have the site closed at the moment while I am revamping and upgrading, I still have a few bugs to iron out so I don't want anyone going there and getting frustrated with it. The problem is not with the web host it is with the shopping cart software. I have the makers of the software working on it now. The main problem I am having is that they are in the UK and I am in Australia, which makes communication a bit difficult.
Alice.
