Of course we had a children's table but I was a teenager and got to sit with the adults. Only sat at the children's table to the request of nephew's.

We had a children's table for crafts and for all our meals we always sat with the adults even at holidays. We were given fancy wine glasses of course with appropriate beverage in them for kids. We would wait dinner until everyone was present to eat as a family and the TV was not allowed on during dinner.

I don't recall one in my youth - but when my kids were small - they loved sitting at their little table - but we only did that - when we had company - as the table wasn't big enough for all the adult family membes and the children.

You never said when you got to sit as the adult table?

I remember sitting at the children's table also. It was great when I was old enough to be moved to the "big" table. We do not do that now in our family.

yep my cousins and I would sit there at every holiday meal, I had to sit on the end of an upturned suitcase as my chair, very uncomfortable but I was the littlest. Moved to the big table when I was about 13

We had a childrens table and a teens table when I was growing up. You got to join the adults table when you turned 16, most didn't until 18 to 20, the teens tables where just too interesting to move up the the adults tables, lol!

I do remember the days of sitting at the kiddy table! Thanksgiving was always at my Aunts house in Lexington Ma and she had a large sun porch that was set up for the kids, the main dining room was for the adults, when we turned 18 we were allowed to sit in the main room, after being able to sit with the adults I missed that sun porch and would still go out with all the other kids, LOL

Well I grew up in middle Ga., the deep south, always a children't table, also the men ate first at the big dinners while the ladies waited on them then when they retired the ladies ate while children sat at their table & ate. With large family dinners even now with me, because of lack of space I always have a small table off in another area for the little ones, another for the teens & anoth for we elders. The teens much prefer it that way. This day in time we just do not speak the same language. Another thing, no man or boy ever entered my grandmother's home with a hat or cap on his head, nor did a man ever keep either on in a lady's presence. No male ever sat down to eat with something on his head. I still do not like seeing men eating anywhere with hats or caps on. /Lillian

I have seven sister and a brother, my parents also raised her cousins two daughters when she died. So yes we had a table for the little ones! I did too when my children were small....was just easier, I had three children in 27 months plus the two older boys. Couldn't manage 3 highchairs!

Remember the childrens table very well with the family get-to-gathers at least until we out grew the dining room table. At that point it was every man for him self through out the house.

When I was growing up, my mom did a buffet style when all the relatives came and everyone just found a place to sit and eat. We didn't have a kids table. There was lots of room in the livingroom and the smaller ones would just sit on the floor in front of their parents or someone older to keep an eye on them and help if necessary.
When my kids were little my first hubby had made them a table and chair set from some scraps around and they loved to eat at their own table. I'd rig something up for a tablecloth to make them feel grownup. Used this even later when family were there.
Later, the kids would fill up their plates and go to the rec room in the basement.
There was always a way to accomodate no matter how many we had for a meal.
My son and DIL have one of those plastic bench tables for the kids and even when there isn't company they like to sit there and eat.
Doesn't seem like a lot of people have much for family gatherings anymore though. Too bad - everyone so busy!! Used to have so much fun - we used to have a family get together at my parents almost every Sunday. The aunts and uncles would bring their musical instuments along and sometimes we'd have a singing and dancing - in particular the kids. We'd have a blast.
