Stands for "International Organization for Standardization." Yes, technically the acronym should be "IOFS," but I guess ISO sounds better. ISO also means "Is Seeking Only", very much the same as ddoersch's meaning.

In the embroidery world it means "in search of". Many other meanings elsewhere.
