Why is it that sometimes when I download a design in PES that my softwear doesnot recognise it? I recently asked if anyone knew of designs of the Welsh flag and I cannot download the design on I think Sewforum. I also cant get some of the Designs by Cuties either. All answers greatly received, flowers to all. THANKS

There are different versions of pes files. I think it's up to 6. I would suggest you download in some other formats-and then use your software to convert to pes.

I use pes 1. It happens to me also. I usually download in HUS and my Smart Sizer Gold (Great Notions) will convert to Pes. Also if the designs is 5X7(sometimes) and always if it is over 5X7, I have to download in HUS and my SSG will take care of the change to PES. On Emblibrary anything over 4X4 has to be changed by my SSGold. MY SSG was bought from the BabyLock dealer that I got my BabyLocks from and it was a couple of yrs before I installed it on my computer. It was big bucks for way back then but I had a great job and did not know about any of the free sites I could download from. Of course, the machine dealer did not suggest that I go online and find one of the free ones! We also have some of these new sites that have just popped up in the last few months that I have to download from the HUS even on the 4X4 and they offer the PES but it will not work. designs???????? I am still wondering why on that! The Pes will download to a floppy disc but not open so I can see the design from my desktop. I just go with whatever it gives me........
The design is only in PES

You might try unzipping the file. I believe that all of the files from sewforum are zipped, but show up as pes.

No they aren't, it depends on how the digitizer prefers to put it up. The extension will tell you .zip or.somefile.
Thanks but its not zipped

I have just tried coming at the question from another way but... As the design I want is only in PES format there appears to be no other way. The design when I try to open it says 'Cant read this file version' then if I am not lucky the laptop freezes :( This is a problem I have had with other designs. I am going to go to my friends and see if I can get it to work on her softwear BUT it is after midnight with me so I will leave it until another day. Please, please if anyone else can say what the problem is and even better a solution I would be so very happy. The design is not zipped. *2all

I have issues with some of the PES also - It tells me that the file is not recognized when I try to put to my software. And for the life of me, I can not remember the difference when I go to download a design in the PES formats.

Okay, if your software freezes up, don't use it, use ambassador or truesizer. Open one of those programs and out of the folder where you have put the design, open it in one of those to change the format to say, hus, then back to pes.

I was told to try another browser. I have had that same difficulty with free designs. Fortunately not with purchased designs. Good Luck, let us know the resolution. Thanks christine Live Laugh Download Stitch! LLDS!

it may depend on the .pes version.. some older software cannot read the newer pes files
I have started to notice that some digitizers are adding the version numbers to their files

Usually it's because the pes is a different version of pes than you have. Pes comes in 1.0, 2.0 3.0, 4.0, 5.6......up to 9.0. The download icaons all look the same although sometimes the digitizer will label it with the version number. My machine can read 5.6 and lower. Anything higher than 5.6 has to be converted to the lower version.
I use Pulse ambassador or Wilcom Trusizer free software to convert. My old Pulse Ambassador will convert, I'm not sure the new one will convert to the lower versions. I believe the new Wilcom has the lower versions.

I have the same problem , in the Designs by Cuties , I downloaded all 50 State FSL ornaments ( did not check to see they were there and when I did they don't show up ) I keep them hoping I could do something to them later . ( You know how that goes later ) Now I check them as I DL them. * Nancy

When, with emphasis on when I will have a go at putting them through Pulse or similar and if it works I will let you know
Other possible problems:
If you only have a 4x4 sewing area and the design is larger than 4x4 then you may not be able to read it.
Some digitizers will digitize in a format other than pes. Their machine tells them it's a 4x4 but the actual size may be 4x5 (because every company designs their machines differently), then they convert to pes and other formats and don't realize it's actually too big for a Brother 4x4.

I just found out that comments on comments have a limited space.

Thanks for answering. I have a large sewing area so this is not the problem. I cannot get the design to open in my laptop let alone get it to a machine
