I see you have your answers,
I always use a walking foot. it really works.
I use spray fabric adhesive to hold in place whilst stitching.

1. I sandwich the backing, batting and top with fabric adhesive.
2. stitch with walking foot.

I just use a large hand basting stitch then hand stitch/ or sew. I always use a regular foot.Have never used a walking foot.Would be nice to try someday.I make lap quilts.Have never used the sprays.Hope this helps.

What tension are you using on your foot? You want to reduce that so your layers can better move together... I think.

i always do crazy quilting were you drop your feed dogs and quilt wherever you wish.They have a foot for that but i never had a foot for years and i love quilting this way .I mean you don't need no foot just take off the one you use and lower the arm so you see were your going and sew away !!!!carolyn

A lot of quilter use curved saftey pins to hold everything together and then roll it to the point you are stitching. Good Luck, I drop the feed dogs ans use the embroidery foot. I use medium size safety pins ... secure the whole quilt.. top,batting, backing with them... then use walking foot to quilt...

I have never done quilting, although I have all the materials, including batting for a quilt for my bed. This I have had for at least 5 years. The answers here have given me a push to actually 'think' about getting started. Thank you for your post.
