Feeling for you Karen, nothing so bad as when your pc suddenly dies. Was is a pc or laptop?

My laptop screen went black and I was all in a panic, only to be told that sometimes the battery lock comes undone and all you need do is remove and re-insert the battery and make sure the lock is in place. Worked like a charm!

But last night I couldn't shut down the laptop, a fair indication of it having a virus though nothing is showing up with Norton's or Malwarebytes.
HMMMM???

I hope that everyone out there in Embroidery Land sees your post and BACKS UP THEIR COMPUTER while there is still time. You NEVER know when, all of the sudden, everything will be gone.
I hope that you find a little glitch that gets fixed and your computer returns to a normal state of function. Is your computer even trying to run or is it just dead? There might be a few "fixes" for you, depending on the state of your system. Good luck!

You can never back up too much. I usually back up my downloads every day and haven't been doing it the last few days. Think it's time to get back to the habit. Sounds like the power box to me. That's easy to fix and not very expensive. Had one put in for $60. Good luck.

Mine did something like that a couple years ago and I had to add a memory board - whew - I thought it was toast and I didn't have an external hard drive at the time, but I do now and it is set to run every couple hrs.
Couple weeks ago, I had a similar problem, but I knew it was something diff. as it acted a little diff. - the fan quit. I got told to get a new pc. I took it home - opened it up - cleaned all the dust thoroughly from the inside and the build up on the fan itself and then hooked everything back up, kept my fingers crosses and hit the power button and walah! it's still working - I'm on it right now!
So maybe you will come up with a cheap solution to your problem and be able to get it up and running again.
(Oh, and because it was the fan everything shut down and no humming as - of course - the fans not going.)

Oh no, that is just awful!! At least you have someone who knows what to do (hopefully) I would be totally bereft and VERY DEPRESSED!!!!

Ok, as silly as it sounds, is it plugged in to a working outlet? I had a problem with my laptop once, wouldn't turn on, no sound, nothin', and I was in a huge panic because I can't afford another computer, and I was really beside myself for a whole day wondering what to do. That evening, I went to turn on the light, and that sucker didn't work either! What now? Since both were plugged into the same surge protector power strip, I made sure the strip was in the wall socket. Well, this was a surge strip DH bought, with a rocker switch to turn it on and off, and one of those darn CATS had stepped on the rocker and turned it off. When I turned it on, the computer and everything was fine. Eesh, but sometimes those furballs give me a panic attack for nothing! Hope you get it fixed soon, and that it's something simple. As I'm working at the IT-departement; I can say that we have 3 important remarks here: 1) check the powersupply/adaptor. 2) remove the battery and click it in again. Sometimes it is just a matter of bad contact. 3) BACKUP IMPORTANT DATA !!!! I can't repeat this enough, but users just don't do it. BUT IMPORTANT TOO = BACKUP MORE THAN ONE TIME !! "law of murphy" the first backup can get damaged/corrupt too !!

I imagine that your husband has tried this already but just in case he hasn't the first thing I always do when a 'puter stops working is open it up and make sure there is no dust in there especially in the ram. I pull those out (making sure I am earthed on the computer case) then I give them a dust and put them back in. I can't tell you how many times I have resurrected a dead computer with a simple dusting.
