They are also called "monkey pants" and I found a tutorial on how to make them. Hope it is what you are looking for.

Thanks Anita, that is a great tutorial. Amy laid Ophelie's out on the floor, cut around the leg shape and that gave her the pants. We then worked out that the central panel (in the pants we have) was either a rectangle or slightly rounded at the base of the crotch. Anyway, Amy persisted and they turned out great. I showed her how to insert the elastic for the waist (quartered the elastic and also the pants) and she stitched it on. It's turned out nicer than the bought ones!

Anyway, many thanks for everyone's help. Amy is at work today so I'll have to wait till Thursday to take a picture of the ones she made! Love Chris
