I have bought a embrodiery machine. I know every little about embrodiery. So this question is going to sound stupid. What do I have to buy to get downloads. I have a brother PE 180D

Welcome to cute - and you can download your designs to a drive, or jump drive in the format that your machine uses. You just can not resize or play with the designs, Depending on what you can afford - think about some embroidery software. I am sure that more Cuties will get back with you and give you some good areas to look at them. I know that you can try embird for 30 days free..,just to see what you may want. Good luck and happy sewing.

Does your dealer offer any free lesson on your machine to get you started with embroidery?

Your machine only takes a memory card so in order to get them on your machine you will need to buy a
Ped-Basic from a Brother dealer. Not sure if they are sold on E-Bay or not. You can download them onto your computer and put in a file or onto a jumb drive, CD or even a floppy disc but then must put it on the memory card with the Ped-Basic to put into your machine. Just make sure whatever you download is in the PES format. I also have that same machine and it came out about 2000 to 2001 or 2. Nice machine but will only do up to a 4x4 pattern. Keep that in mind when downloading. Best wishes with your new machine. I know you will enjoy it. Flower 4 U

Opps meant to say there are other things you can use as long as it will teke the PES format. Ped-Basic used to run around $149.00 but may be a little cheaper now. I think it is the least expensive to buy of other things out there.

Welcome to Cute. Your machine has a slot for a memoty card, this on the right side of the machine. You have to buy memory cards and the design softwear to be able to lead the designs you want. Unfortunatly the design softwear is not cheap. I also have Brother machines and have PE Softwear. Its an age since I have used the machine you have but they are easy to use and great fun. Keep coming here and asking questions

Worked at a Brother shop for 8 years till they had to close this past March. Really miss my job. Hers embroiders only also. flower for you

Welcome. You've landed in a very wonderful place to have questions answered till you understand. There are lots of very patient and helpful people here. I wish you the very best with your machine. And by the way, if you discover a design that you like that is in a different format, there is software available for free to convert it to what ever you need. Enjoy your machine!!

First you need a card reader Ped Basic is one that mosted used at the time your machine came out and it is still used for other brother machines you can find them on ebay and I belive Amazon sells them too. the cost for a reader run between $100 and $150 this should come with the card that you use to send the design to the machine. Brother machines read what is called( PES )files. Since the machine will only read a PES file you will want to go and down load Wilcom Truesizer it is a free program that will let you take other versions like Hus, VIP and change them to a PES. not all versions of designs can be changed to PES so always make PES your first choice.
Hope this helps and always ask we love to help out others.
Welcome to cute!!!!!

You got the right answers! PE Basic is for you, and you can use it when you upgrade to Brother machines. Software,eader/writer box & card is just bit over $100. at Walmart on line or Allbrands, -free shipping. It also lets you resize a little bit.

If you watch on amazon around Christmas, the price will go down. That's how I bought mine last year plus I had a small gift card. Love it.

AhhHooooh! Now you are a Cutie! You asked your first question and have some flowers and we have you under our wings! Don't worry, it won't hurt. You actually only need to buy PEbasic with this one memory card. You can go through all the designs by Cuties and download all the ones in pes for free. That should take you a few days. Put them in files that make sense to YOU so you can find them as you need them. Then, there are tons of free designs you can download from places we will tell that have good designs. Most of us are addicted to downloaded and collecting designs. I don't think you can ask any "stupid" question that I haven't already asked personally :-) Relax and feel all the hugs from all your sister Cuties!

I did not get into the software part of anything.. getting to old... and my other ones are much newer.. but give it a try..

I see you have some good answers. I haven't seen your machine so wouldn't have been able to help. When I first got my machine I didn't ask questions, just kept reading and found answers for many things and then I needed to know something and asked and had an answer almost immed.
I even had someone at the dealership where I got my machine wondering how come I hadn't taken any classes! I told her I didn't need them as the machine is very user friendly and the questions I had were answered by cuties. Besides, when you run into a problem, the dealer is usually already closed, but there is always a cutie available somewhere 24 hrs. a day!
Good luck with your machine and you'll get addicted to this site in a hurry. When I found it, I quit going to other sites!
