any dimension you like, draw one square than another on top, add one half circle at the lefthand site of the upper square and one half circle at bottom like a foot, I have tried in 6cm, 8cm and 10cm for one square and they all worked fine. I think even a 30cm or 12" should work if the fabric is heavy enough, if you embroider first, fit the square messures around the design
