Please can those who have sewn zips into a in the hoop design give me any tips? In theory it sounds fine but in practice ...
and do I need to buy small zips or can I cut down ones to the size I need. Thanks all for the invaluable help and flowers to all

Make sure you use the plastic zippers and not metal. Also you don't need to cut them to size,after the project is done sewing you just trim off the extra. Use tape to hold the zipper in place. I use lots! Got my zippers from ebay from a site called zipperstop. Follow the step by step directions from your project and you will be fine. Hope this helps

Bev thanks you are a star. This is a project that I intend to start tomorrow as its after midnight with me now. In using tape do you use double sided tape?
Just a one sided tape. The first stitch out is a line on your stabilizer. Then you tape down the zipper right on top of the line and you'll be adding your fabric as you go.

Just be sure that you open the zipper (if you need to since I have always needed to) when the instructions tell you to. You can use any size as long as they are long enough. Most designs only need a 7 or 8" zipper but sometimes longer ones make it easier. You just cut them off. They usually either sew a line or a rectangle to tape the zipper to.

You have gotten good advice - I LOVE ITH things with zippers - made a bunch of them. The biggest tip is to be sure the zipper is plastic and not metal and that it is long enough for the project (it can be bigger but not smaller). Just jump in and try one - after that they will seem easy!
