dec 3. On the 5th of december we celebrate the birthday of St.Nicolaas in the Netherlands(and in Belgium?). But because this year it's on a monday many people celebrate today or tomorrow. for the interested some details will follow.

Father Christmas has many years ago been introduced by Coca Cola, but St. Nicolaas was model for Santa. St Nicolaas was a real bisschop very long time ago(around the year 300). And in the 13th century the 6th of december became his day. Since that time it's a celebrationday, it became a day for the children to get presents on the night/evening before the 6th of december. He always arrives from Spain where he "lives" by boat in the Netherlands. And he continous his trip on the back of a white horse. He has many helpers they are called Zwarte Piet ( Black Piet). Because he was origannaly a bishop he looks like a bishop too in the way he is dressed. Anyhow its a lovely celebration and many children believe in St.Nicolaas or also called Sinterklaas. And I wish every family that celebrates this in the weekend or next week a very nice and happy party. and nice presents.It's always nice to get a gift. and even nicer to surprise somebody with a gift. Ik moet zeggen dat ik het nog steeds mis. Ik vond het heerlijk om surprises en gedichtjes te maken. De voor pret was net zo leuk als de avond zelf. Het is jammer dat we niet het zelfde doen hier in Engeland!
