I buy my Organ needles by the 100 packets. I did think long and hard about the titanium needles but read somewhere that should they, at some stage or for some reason, become out of alignment, because of their hardness they could cause more damage to the bobbin area. Another report I think I read that only tip was treated with titanium, so that refuted the above theory somewhat. I didn't go into that research very deeply.
I think you'd be more inclined to use the more expensive needle for longer, whereas the cheaper needles can be changed regularly without that concern.

I would still like to try the titanium needles - I just don't need any for a long time. However, I, too, am very interested in what other people's experience with titanium needles might be.

I'm afraid this isn't much help but I'll be sticking to the regular Organ needles because they are doing such a good job in my machine.

Good question and excellent answers, I bought Superior metallic thread they advice to use titanium needles with this thread so I did buy 10 needles pack, I hope i could do more Metallic designs now.

I have used both and can't tell any difference in them. If you have a mishap and something doesn't line up perfectly you get a burr or bent needle on both.

I bought both. I can't tell that much difference for the price. So, I buy the regular and change often for a cheap price.

It is difficult for me to measure in that I have not used titanium needles. I do however use Schmetz Embroidery Gold and get about 150,000 stitches if I am doing FSL and a little less if I am doing fill. I also pay about $1 a piece (this time) so please give some more information. Thank you christine Live Laugh Download Stitch!

They may be better, but I am such a goof that I break all needles at the same speed, so I go for the less expensive ones. Make sure you can use Organ first. My Brother dealer said they were just an ever so slightly different size that they make a difference in some machines.... Love to know what you determine :-)

I have used the titanium needles.
My experience has been that if something goes wrong and the needle hits something it shouldn't, the metal of the needle is so hard that instead of breaking like other needles it does damage and just bends. Hence I damaged my throat plate not once but twice.
Changed the presser foot and forgot to move the needle over and now have a dent in the top of the presser foot

I didn't learn the 1st time. So those needles stay in the drawer.
Since the needle doesn't break there is a greater chance of you using a not so straight needle without realizing it.
Never noticed if they last longer.

I use the Organ needles and like them. Have used both but didn't see that the titanium ones lasted any longer than the regular. What site are you ordering from? I am getting low and like having a good supply on hand (for the middle of the night!!).

My old machine HATED the Schmetz titaniums I got for it (Broither 780D). Because of that experience, I have never tried them in my Quattro. I buy the Schmetz 80/12 universals by the 100 so they are less per needle that way and I replace as often as I need.

I did not even know that you can buy the needles by 100. Here in South Africa the packets of needles is mostly 5 in packet. Marie

last time I have bought Titanium needles, can't say that I notice the difference. Don't really know if they last longer...

I have used the titanium Organ needles. I purchased three packs in different sizes to try before I bought the mega pack. Yes they do have bigger holes which I thought would help from changing needles for some threads. I started having trouble with my machines, which are Bernina. Called the guy that does the cleaning and he asked a few questions of which one was on the Organ needles. As was already mentioned, he told me that they are just a smidge to long. I did notice a big change when I went back to the Schmetz needles. So now with metalic and some rayon I just change needles.

Wow, a variety of answers and additiona questions...so is there a difference in the lentgh of Organ Needles vs Schmetz or other brands? Will be at my dealer tomorrow...I will ask and see what they say...So interesting to get others objective experiences!

I love them, my machine loves them. If you are in doubt, try a smaller pack to see if your machine likes them. i love the size 75 for most projects.. Kay

Good question and interesting answers. As I haven't been doing ME very long - all I have used is what I have for many yrs. in my reg. machine - I use the Schmetz brand and have no problems. So I don't think I'm even going to attempt trying other kinds just yet.

this has been interesting reading. related but not about the titanium needles, my local Bernina dealer told me that he knows the Bernina, Janome and the "cheapie" shop needles are all made by Schmetz, and that he suspects many other brands are too. I have tried the "cheapie" shop needles at $2 for 5 and they seem to work fine, maybe get blunt quicker.xx

I buy Schmetz needles and also buy Schmetz Gold Titanium Nitride needles whenever I find them. I love them because they are better than regular Schmetz (no problems stitching) and last longer. I notice the difference every time I embroider with them! Hugs, Lidia
