Something I would like to share-I had been looking at sergers/overlock machines.I wanted to make it easy for my husband, so when he asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I could tell him what and where, b/c he doesn't like to shop. Well, he hadn't ask and today I bought one for myself. If I bought it b4 Christmas @ Hancocks, they offered a $20 coupon for every $100. you spend.So I brought my serger home, only my husband had gone out and bought me 1 too!! I was so surprised, cause I had no idea he knew I wanted one for Christmas and he was surprised that I had bought one! He bought a Singer Finishing Touch 14SH654 from Wal-mart $220.00. I bought the Juno by Janome 3434D for the same price. I like the looks of the body on the Singer better, but I had read reviews on each and the Singer didn't get a good rating. Do any of you Cuties have any experience with either one, since one will have to go back? I apologized for spoiling his surprise, evediently he does pay attention to me, haha-Toogie

I went to the Singer site and read the review. It wasn't good, thanks for your advice. Do you know anything about the Janome?-Toogie
LOL I say the smae ting and my best friend just bought on from Walmart! I couldn't say a thing! She was so happy, I couldn't burst her bubble!

I think I'd return the Singer and keep the Janome. Singers are made in China now, and I think the quality control is pretty poor on them. It might be ok, or it might be a lemon. You never know. I think Janome sells only through their dealers and they stand behind their product better.

Thank you for your advice. Singer had a good name years ago, but like everything else today, new is not always better. Everything is so cheaply made, no pride anymore, just produce it fast to get it out there to sell._T

I will enjoy it, once I learn, since I have never had a serger. And yes, just when I think that we have been together too long, he does something to pull at my heartstrings,haha-T

I would also stick with the Janome, I had a Singer and had nothing but trouble with it..... I now buy Brother and Janome

I didn't drop a hint. I was waiting for him to ask me what I would like and he didn't. I guess he just Remembered that I have been wanting one for quite a while. I jumped the gun, so to speak, and got one before the sale was over not knowing he was of the same mind. I figured that I had waited long enough, so if I really wanted one, I would have to buy it myself.WRONG!! haha-T

you will find that the janome one uses special needles that are rather on the expencive side so check it out before deciding also check what extra feet you can get for them.

I did check about the needles,because my pleater needles are not cheap. However, this perticular model can use regular sewing needles. I would like a ruffler foot, although Iam not sure how they work.

My first serger was a Janome and I used it alot for 22 years, only had it in once for a minor repair. I recently replaced it with a baby lock but only because the threading system on this one was so much easier and accessible (when you get older these things matter) LOL,
I have nothing but good things to say about janome, and I would wonder what kind of service you will get at walmart.

Hopefully my husband can do any service that it would need. He has taken my regular sewing machine apart and fixed once when there was a problem, nothing major.He took it to his air compressor and blew all the fuzz out the other day, oiled.He has also cleaned my emb machine

about 5 or 6 years ago I would have said keep the singer, but, it is not made by "Singer" anymore. They sold out to someone, don't remember who. There was a time Singer was the very best,as far as I am concerned, but not anymore. I had bought a singer sewing machine only a few years back and did not know about the sale of the company. It is not as "heavy duty" as the prior Singers I had had. Decisions, decisions....good luck with whichever you decide on!

I will probally keep the Janome. It is not as PRETTY, but looks won't get the job done.My reserch said, it had all metal working parts and you could use regular sewing needles for the Janome. One lady said that the Singer was so lightweight, that when you sewed fast, it would "dance" on the table.The Janome has suction cups on the bottom of the machine. And if I keep the Janome, I can buy(after christmas) $50. of threads for it for $10.!!! with the coupons I got with the purchase of the Janome. What better incentive is that? haha Oh, gotta go have pecan pies in the oven, have to come out.Merry Christmas all!-T
