If it does it with any brand thread you use it is most likely your tension. Check you machine and clean out the race shuttle. Not knowing what kind of machine you have I am guessing it is a Brothers. Get your book out and see what it says. If not that call the company that made your machine. Someone else may be able to tell you better than I can. Good luck. this will often happen even with the "recomended " thread. just get a pack of sharpies and touch up the white and all is ok again. its most like a tension problem or any of a dozen different reasons. jut do what most of us do and use a pemanant felt tipped pen or a sharpie in a colour closest to the one you have used for the thread. hope this helps. annie in the UK

I have brother machine but don't use their thread..don't have this problem. My friend has a brother and she does. I don't know why it happens but beleive it is due to tension. I like using serger thread in bobbin. Only thing I can think of is to use matching thread till you can resolve this problem.

Hi I have given a reply at the back in projects. Are you using pre wound bobbins? If so sometimes when they are almost used up they wobble and this happens, if I have not had the message that the bobbin is nearly used up then I check and if it is nearly gone I replace it and then (usually) the problem has gone. This is a different reply to the one in projects

I have this problem if I don't use Janome bobbin thread. Sharpie marker works well!

Hi Looks like you are using something fuzzy to sew on. Do you use a wash away stabilizer on top? To me from the picture it looks like the nap of the material is showing through on the dark colors. I just use a material permanent marker to touch on the white fuzz showing through. If it were the bobbin thread it would be more visable throughout the whole designs and all the colors. Metro thread is good thread. You can try a different brand of bobbin thread if that makes you feel better. But I really do not think it is the bobbin thread. It just looks like loops of the material showing through . Hope this helps you. SuZanne

lower your tension just a bit..Your top thread is pulling the bobbin thread up.

I will agree, this does not look like my bobbin thread when I was having a problem. It looks like the fuzz off of the material coming through the upper thread. Since I had such a bad problem and had to have it worked on, I make sure I always have a wash away on on top of the material as well as stablizer underneath. I know that it is not always necessary but unless it is a very haevy material, I still use it on top. On towels and loose weaves, it is necessary to to hold down the nap of the material to have a clean stitch on top. It cost more but it it much neater! My son was trying to work on my machine when it got so out of whack and I had to carry it in for reapirs. He had the idea that he could fix anything and it cost me in the long-run!

I suddenly had the same on letters, the embroidery was terrible. tightened the tension on the bobbin case. You will find a little screw there. I think it is tight to the right to remember which way. It worked for me. good luck

I totally agree with the sharpie gals!! I used to drive myself crazy tryng to figure out why some threads showed and some didn't and on & on....then I got on the sharpie wagon and it doesn't matter anymore.......just sew away and touch up where necessary.....I will try adjusting the tension first, but if that doesn't work...sharpie time!!

I agree - it looks like the pile of the material showing through. I used to have problems with lettering and the bobbin thread coming to the top. Since I changed to pre wound I have no problems at all.

I also embroider on a lot of fluffy material, but I use a watersoluble cover,even though it then is slightly more expensive, to save the hassle of repairing later on. Lovies.****

If your machine has a tension option in the embroidery window, lower the needle tension. That should allow the bobbin thread to pull the needle thread under the design more.

When you sew on this fabric are you covering the top of the towel or whatever you are sewing on with wws???I cover the top and it helps my brother from pulling the bobbin thread up hugs

I am always wondering when a store tells me only "their" thread works. Try a bobbin of other thread brands first; use the WSS topper; adjust the needle tension (leave the bobbin tension alone if possible) and see if any of that works. Then try the felt pens...then if nothing works, contact the company! also try it on other types of fabrics to see if it does the same on all.

meestal zit dat in de bovendraadspanning. je kunt die wat losser zetten zodat hij de spoeldraad wat minder naar boven trekt. Soms kan een nieuwe naald ook wel eens helpen. maar in principe moet een ander merk spoelgaren ook te gebruiken zijn. Bij Brother zeggen ze al snel dat het daaraan ligt. Ik heb het zelf ook gehad en toen het bleef heeft mijn dealer de spanning op het spoelhuis iets strakker gezet.Maar daar kun je beter niet meteen zelf aan draaien.dat is een vrij precies werkje. en in het ergste geval kun je eventueel met een watervaste stift in de kleur van de borduring de zichtbaar geworden onderdraad een beetje camoufleren. Succes.

I occasinally used to get this problem but now I use the same colour bobbin thread. I have a Brother but do not use their bobbin thread.

It looks to me like you need some 'dry cover up' on top to keep the design crisp and clean looking. It may not be bobbin showing since it looks like a fuzzy fabric. I got a pack from Erica's and love the results it gives. It comes in colors and also clear. Now I just keep a roll of clear because it does the job of keeping any fabric fuzz from popping through. The colors do help provide coverage if you have a near match to your thread though. I just don't keep all the colors just the clear. It washes great and even on towels no towel fuzz ever comes through after repeated washing.

I have been reading all your answers and tips and started wondering what was the difference between the use of the brother thread and the others,.. the way that I winding up the thread ! with the brother I used the "system stand" of the machine, the other thread -different type and does not fix on the machine- I need to wind up using a "standing stand". And probably this gives less tension. So I lowered the tension like some wrote from 4.0 to 3.4 and the design is now SUPER ! I will post a picture in the project tab, and you can even check the black part, PERFECT. Thanks again my friends, now I can show off tomorrow at work.

Make sure there is no small piece of thread caught in you tenison top or bottom even a tiny piece of lint will cause this problem my embroidery repair man tell me. when my machine starts doing this the last time I had to have the bobbin case replaced.

I agree that it looks more like the fabric coming through. I would put some water soluble stabilizer on top. If the bobbin thread is coming through I always adjust my bobbin tension. I know a lot of people won't, but my machine mechanic insists that people do this themselves. I have written a blog post on how to do it.
